against Poverty
Everything
started with a visit to the asylum for children with psychological and physical
defects in the village of Dobromirtsi, near Zlatograd, hidden deep in the Rodopi
-
Mountain in the Southern part of Bulgaria.
This
asylum differs from the others in that the children perceive the world rather
inadequately. 
Most
of them suffer from schizophrenia, oligophrenia, Down’s syndrome, paralysis
and blindness. The inability to speak at all causes problems in their feeding,
dressing and the meeting of their hygienic needs.
“Art innovation center” decided to organize charity concerts entitled “Art against Poverty”. These activities, the first of its
kind in Bulgaria, were aimed at raising funds for supporting the asylum.
The
first one was a jazz concert held on May 22nd 1998, the second – a
symphonic one- on May 24th 1998. 
The
money raised at the two concerts has been spent on food, clothes and medicines
for the children.
The
“Art innovation center “ challenges all those who are watching this video or
pictures about the pain and the problems of these miserable children.
They need love, food, clothes, medicines and wheel chairs.
